CIC2021 Week 1 Recap
And just like that—the first week of our CIC content blast is done!
The BIGGEST thank-you goes out to Marco and Scout, this weeks Industry Professionals (IPs), who did not hold back when letting us into their industry secrets and career stories.
On Wednesday, our first-ever podcast episode (CMNSU & Friends) went live. Linda and Kat from the CMNSU Communications team sat down with Marco Fratarcangeli to discuss his career in the film festival industry and how he ended up landing a position for the Vancouver International Film Festival. From studying art history and film studies at UBC to volunteering to get his foot in the door, Marco is just three years post-grad and working for VIFF as a Partnership Specialist. Marco worked hard during and after his undergrad to put himself out there to build as much experience as he could to gain leverage in the job hunt—which clearly paid off.
Earlier this week, we asked the CMNS community to submit questions to be answered by Scout Shmygol during her Instagram takeover. On Friday, Scout, Marketing Manager at Vitruvi and SFU CMNS alumnus, took over the CMNSU Instagram with her beautifully minimalistic aesthetic to talk to us about her work habits and career endeavours since graduating from SFU. We could practically hear the universal sigh of relief when she revealed that “group projects are way better out of school” as collaborative groups in a work setting are much more invested, resulting in a much more enjoyable experience.
Thank you again to Marco, Scout and all of the CMNS students that submitted questions and interacted with this weeks content! We still have 3 weeks of content coming at you and you don’t want to miss the valuable academic advice and career inspiration! Keep up with our Instagram to follow along with us all month long.
