CIC: Industries in Motion 2024 Event Recap

This year’s Careers in Communication (CIC) event was another resounding success, building on the achievements of last year’s CIC where students had opportunities to broaden their perspectives on career paths. Celebrating its 11th year as a pivotal event offered by CMNSU to the student body at SFU, CIC once again provided students with invaluable opportunities. Attendees connected with industry professionals in the Communication field, gained invaluable insights, and expanded networks with the expertise of Vancouver industry professionals. Additionally, attendees had the chance to engage with like-minded peers who share a common passion for the diverse opportunities that Communication has to offer.

A New Focus

The CIC 2024, formally named as CIC: Industries in Motion 2024 was unlike any other event hosted by the SFU Communication Student Union in the past. In tradition, the event consisted of icebreakers and peer-to-peer bonding, followed by networking sessions with industry professionals. Now, after the huge success of last year’s event where we shifted our focus to providing more opportunities for attendees to connect with industry professionals in various Communication fields, we decided Industries in Motion 2024 (IIM) would focus entirely on providing opporunities to learn more about different professions in the field. This was achieved through panels from different sectors within the Communication industry, Q&A sessions, and industry professional booths structured as expo booths where attendees could visit to ask questions and build meaningful rapport.

Industry Professionals

We were honoured to have professionals from diverse fields and a breadth of companies and organizations, including Electronic Arts, Canucks Sports and Entertainment, YMCA BC, Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, Foundry, Novus Entertainment, Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, Vancouver Aquarium, and many more! We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to every industry professional who took part in our event and shared their valuable knowledge drawn from their career journeys in the field of Communication.

Sponsors

And of course, we would like to express our gratitude to amazing sponsors who provided generous support for our event. We cannot succeed without their contributions in allowing CMNSU to continue putting on successful events for the SFU community. A big thank you to EA, Steve’s Poke Bar, SFU Spirit Shop Booksore Anton’s Pasta, Evo, MYST, Black Bond Books, Modo Yoga Vancouver, Caffè Artigiano, Climb Base 5, The Hive, The old spagetti factory, Vancouver Art Gallery, Dead Frog Brewery, Vnacouver Canadians Baseball, Mala, and Pastry Training Centre of Vancouver.
