This past Friday, the Communication Student Union (CMNSU) held its annual winter charity event - Winter Wisdom. CMNSU’s charity events have always been a key opportunity for students to make an impact on their communities, with last year’s event Cards for the Community reflecting this. For Cards for the Community, CMNSU collected donations for the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre (DTES) while creating a space for students to socialize, play board games and write holiday cards for residents at a local retirement home.

For this year’s charity event we wanted to carry forward the same core values. Winter Wisdom was centered on a night of trivia with the goal of giving students an opportunity to support those within their communities while getting a chance to network and connect with their fellow peers. As their “ticket into the trivia night, students were asked to donate items such as books.

The night couldn’t have been possible without the planning of our Events team, led by our talented Vice Presidents Eden and Erica!

Trivia proved to be a hit among those who attended, with topics for just about anyone ranging from pop culture, geography and, of course, communication theory. In between testing their knowledge, students had a chance to mingle with their peers and enjoy snacks and refreshments.

The competition was buzzing throughout the room, especially since teams were playing for amazing prizes donated by our wonderful sponsors - Trapped Coquitlam, Anton’s Pasta, Taphouse Coquitlam and SFU Bookstore. Our grand prize, Trapped Coquiltam, offered an opportunity to keep the games going through an immersive into a real-life escape room with themes including Below the Sphinx, Cursed Expedition, Hotel Dystopia and more.

In the end, team T took home the victory with the most points and, of course, gifts from our sponsors. Congratulations team T and thank you to everyone who came out!
