Careers in Communication 2023: Wrap Up

Our annual Spring event Careers in Communication (CIC) came to a wrap a few weeks ago, and we want to take a moment to reflect on the successful night. If you didn’t get a chance to attend this year, CIC is a networking event that connects students with industry professionals and encourages them to have questions answered, advice shared, and expand their personal network.

Switching things up

This year, we brought CIC back in person for the first time since 2019 and we wanted to switch things up a bit by incorporating a case competition. We were incredibly lucky to have four groups sign up for the case competition and we want to extend our gratitude to each team that participated. In the end, Arrow Consulting wowed our judges and came in first place. Congratulations and thank you for your incredible work - your victory is well deserved!

Industry Professionals

Networking is a major element of CIC and this year was packed with many opportunities for just that with twenty industry professionals present to share more about their professions and offer up a breadth of career-related advice. We heard from a range of professionals in fields such as communications, public relations, copywriting, marketing, and more. We were honoured to have professionals from a breadth of companies and organizations, such as Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Arc’teryx, National Film Board of Canada and many many more! Huge thank you to all of the industry professionals that came out for CIC.

Sponsors

This would be the perfect time to thank our amazing sponsors for the event. Connecting with sponsors is one of the most integral parts of any event that we put together. We are always thankful for our sponsors because they allow us to connect SFU students and organizations in unique and exciting ways. This year we were thrilled to work with great sponsors for our wrap up event of the semester, Careers in Communication. A big thank you to Evo, Rain & Shine, Museum of Vancouver, SFU bookstore, Claudio’s Ristorante, The Hive, Vancouver Pastry School, Meet on Main, Flyover Canada, Voila by Farah, Mi Tierra Latina, Bak’d Cookies, Vancouver Mysteries, Steve’s Poké Bar, Sopra Sotto, Rio Theatre, SFU School of Communications and Arc’teryx.

Our sponsors' contributions are vital in allowing CMNSU to continue putting on successful events for the SFU community and bringing students together across all three of our campuses. We cannot succeed without the generosity of our sponsors and want to extend a warm thank you for all their support. All the products obtained from our sponsors were used as door prizes, raffle draw gifts, speaker gifts and as scavenger hunt prizes. If you ever see a CMNSU event happening near you, drop by and you might walkway with a plethora of goodies, courtesy of our amazing sponsors.
