Multimedia’s Media and Tech Predictions Part 2
Tariffs!
I had to get that one off my skin. I’m not sure how I feel about what the future holds but what I do know is the Jetson’s idea of what the future holds seemed way cooler than it is now. I’m running that idea purely on nostalgia, some say Future Nostalgia—who will Be the One? I haven’t seen that show in years, maybe a decade or so.
On the bright side, as of writing, it seems like Canada hasn’t seemed this together in ages. You’re telling me that photo of all the Premiers of Canada (Danielle Smith) and the Prime Minister coming together. It felt like Team Canada, beyond the Olympics or World Cup.
Today, we are in predictions blog part 2, let’s dive in.
(Swim back if you haven’t seen part 1 yet)
Emma begins with something I have mixed feelings about:
1. “In next 5 years, CDs make a resurgence”
I love that vinyl has made a resurgence in recent years. I feel like we’re taking back our respect for albums
(minus people that buy the same T-Swizzle album like 10 times to complete some kind of ‘collection’ to post about on insta instead of supporting other artists)
It is known that although streaming has its pros, there are some bloody cons. Artists need to tour just to get some funds, we lose a certain type of relationship to artists we build from discovering their catalogue, or the relationship to the physical, non-digital music communities built from going to a music store.
Anyways, I feel like CDs don’t give me the same feeling as when I pick up a vinyl album.
The bright side of this prediction is that it is another way of us supporting artists and musicians in a non-streaming platform way.
Emma goes on to claim that:
2. “In next 20 years, Facebook dies out” elaborating by claiming “it would take a long time because its such a large platform”
I would love this one too much, but I think 20 years is too long for me (and the WORLD) for that to shut down.
Can we wait that long before Meta and other platforms destroy us?
Can these platforms evolve to actually enhance the quality of human life?
Those are questions nobody has answers to. Which is why we should all just band together and make communities local and in person again. Too much connection is disconnection.
I’m going to stop before I lose you. Before I lose your CoNnECtiOn.
3. “More 2010 era club music! ( ie new katy perry music, kesha just came back , BRAT )”
I think I prefer 2000…lets say 2007 to 2012 era club music. I know Katy Perry released some music recently—didn’t listen. Kesha came back? I still haven’t listened to BRAT, forgive me, I plan to because I want to understand what my early 20s peers are raving about.
Before I end this, thank you for your predictions, Emma, I’m not hating I will give this pop music a listen when I get a chance—I’m not hating, promise. I’m just focusing on what I normally listen to; I love you Sam Fender see you later this year. I didn’t forget about you Japanese Breakfast; I’m looking forward to catching you live too.
What predictions do you see happening that Emma listed? What predictions from her that you wish would come true or would rather not?
On part 3, we will dive into Mr. Movie Kofi’s predictions. Let these credits roll.
